What is Candidiasis?
Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by Candida species, most commonly Candida albicans. This yeast-like fungus normally resides in small amounts in various parts of the body, including the mouth, throat, gut, and skin, without causing harm. However, when conditions allow the fungus to overgrow, it can lead to an infection.
Forms of Candidiasis
There are several forms of candidiasis, depending on the part of the body affected:
Oral Candidiasis (Thrush): This affects the mouth or throat, leading to white patches on the tongue, inner cheeks, and sometimes the throat.
Vaginal Candidiasis (Yeast Infection): A common condition in women, this leads to itching, burning, and discharge.
Cutaneous Candidiasis: This affects the skin, often in warm, moist areas such as the armpits, groin, or under the breasts.
Invasive Candidiasis: A more serious form that occurs when Candida enters the bloodstream or organs, which can happen in people with weakened immune systems, such as hospitalized patients or those with chronic conditions.
Symptoms
The symptoms of candidiasis vary depending on the part of the body that is affected. Below are the common types of candidiasis and their associated symptoms:
1. Oral Candidiasis (Thrush)
White patches on the tongue, inner cheeks, gums, tonsils, or throat
Redness or soreness inside the mouth
Difficulty swallowing or a feeling of food stuck in the throat
Cracking or redness at the corners of the mouth
Loss of taste
2. Vaginal Candidiasis (Yeast Infection)
Itching or irritation in the vagina and vulva
Thick, white discharge that resembles cottage cheese, usually odorless
Redness and swelling of the vulva
Burning sensation during urination or intercourse
Pain or discomfort in the vaginal area
3. Cutaneous Candidiasis (Skin Infection)
Red, itchy rash often in skin folds (e.g., under breasts, in the groin, or between fingers)
Blisters or pustules that may develop in the rash area
Scaling or peeling skin in the affected area
Discomfort or a burning sensation on the skin
4. Invasive Candidiasis
Fever and chills that do not improve with antibiotic treatment
Fatigue
Muscle aches or joint pain
Symptoms vary depending on the organ affected, such as the heart, kidneys, or liver, in more severe cases.
Note: Invasive candidiasis can be life-threatening and typically affects people with compromised immune systems, such as those in the hospital or undergoing major treatments.

Bright red rash in the diaper area that may extend to the folds of the skin
Small red spots or pustules around the edges of the rash
Discomfort or fussiness in babies
6. Esophageal Candidiasis
Pain or difficulty swallowing

Causes
Candidiasis is caused by an overgrowth of Candida, a type of yeast that normally exists harmlessly in the body. Several factors can disrupt the balance between the body’s natural defenses and the yeast, leading to infection. Common causes and contributing factors include:
1. Antibiotic Use
Antibiotics kill not only harmful bacteria but also beneficial bacteria that help control Candida. This disruption allows Candida to grow unchecked.
2. Weakened Immune System
Conditions like HIV/AIDS, cancer treatments (chemotherapy), organ transplants, or the use of immunosuppressive drugs can weaken the immune system, making it harder for the body to keep Candida under control.
3. Diabetes
High blood sugar levels provide an ideal environment for Candida growth. Poorly managed diabetes is a significant risk factor, especially for vaginal and skin infections.
4. Hormonal Changes
Hormonal shifts due to pregnancy, menstruation, or hormone replacement therapy can lead to imbalances that encourage yeast overgrowth, especially in the vaginal area.
5. High-Sugar Diet

This is our clinic delivery policy: The commitment fee will serve as proof of interest in getting the treatment delivered to you, while you pay the balance when you receive the medicines.
For example, if the total of your treatment is N300,000, you will pay a N5,000 commitment fee and pay the rest of N295,000 when the Medicine is delivered to you.
